ASH DIXON is a dynamic player and strong ball carrier with a high work rate.
A natural leader, Dixon has held the skipper role for the Highlanders during Investec Super Rugby and the Hawke’s Bay Magpies provincial team in Mitre 10 Cup. He has captained the Māori All Blacks since 2016, including their momentous match against the British and Irish Lions during the DHL New Zealand Lions Series in 2017. The Ngāti Tahinga-affiliated hooker first earned his call-up to the Māori All Blacks in 2013 and appeared in both matches on the North American Tour.
Dixon started his Super Rugby career with the Blues in 2011 before switching to the Hurricanes in 2013, then to the Highlanders in 2015 where he stood in as captain and didn’t miss a match as the Highlanders claimed their first Super Rugby title. Dixon had a successful 2018 Tour with the Māori All Blacks, adding three tries to his tally in the matches against USA and Brazil. This was followed by a short stint with the Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan, before he linked back up with the Highlanders for the 2019 Investec Super Rugby season where they reached the Quarter Finals.
In 2020, he captained the Magpies to Ranfurly Shield and Championship success.
