BIOGRAPHY

THE EVER-POPULAR Dane Coles earned All Blacks selection again in 2021 following his strong form for the Hurricanes.

With a remarkable array of skills and deceptive speed, Coles redefined the qualities required for a modern international front rower.

A fan favourite for Wellington and the Hurricanes, he captained the Hurricanes to their first Super Rugby title in 2016. That same year he was a nominee for the New Zealand and World Rugby Player of the Year awards.

Coles made his national debut for the New Zealand Under 19s in 2005, played for the New Zealand Under 21s and made his provincial debut for Wellington in 2007, and in 2010 joined the Māori All Blacks for all three matches in the team’s Centenary Series. A Test debut came in 2012 against Scotland at Edinburgh.

In 2021 Coles was named as the oldest player in the All Black squad at 34-years-old and led the haka for the first time in his 75th Test against Tonga at Mt Smart Stadium.
