BIOGRAPHY
Black Fern #222
A dynamic athlete, Steinmetz has a diverse sporting background that started in hockey and touch before she moved into rugby. She played for Wellington and in Japan in the abbreviated game before making the shift to 15s to play for Canterbury in the Farah Palmer Cup.
Heading south to the University of Canterbury for her law and commerce studies, Steinmetz debuted for the Farah Palmer Cup side in 2018. But she kicked on in 2020, playing another seven games, for two tries, some off the bench or on the left wing, before finding a home at fullback, where her speed and counter-attacking ability were put to good use in a sharp Canterbury backline.
In 2022, she made her Black Ferns Test debut in Adelaide in the O'Reilly Cup against Australia following an impressive Sky Super Rugby Aupiki season with Matatū. The following season she assisted Matatū in their title-winning season, but unfortunately missed the final due to injury. However, she recovered in time to take out the Pacific Four Series with the Black Ferns.
Versatile, fast and multi-talented, Steinmetz made the shift north for the 2024 Sky Super Rugby Aupiki season. With the move, she also shifted position, moving into the midfield and it has paid off for the dynamic athlete, cementing herself as a standout player for Chiefs Manawa during their Sky Super Rugby Aupiki campaign.
