Black Fern #179
Phillipa “Pip”Love is one of the most experienced forwards in the Black Ferns squad. Love's Black Ferns journey has been one of resilience. The loose head prop has twice reclaimed her place in the Black Ferns after injuries have threatened to derail her career.
She was called into the national team for the first time in 2014, as a late replacement for the second test against Canada in Whakatane and had to wait until 2017 until her next cap, only to be deemed unfit to attend the World Cup. In 2018, she toasted her return to the black jersey with a try during the Black Ferns’ home Test match against Australia at Eden Park, thus far her sole international try.
Her years in Otago for physical education studies saw her play 29 games for the Spirit from 2009-14. In her final year in Dunedin she made her Black Ferns debut against Canada. Love was an integral part of the victorious Black Ferns Rugby World Cup squad in 2022.
