Behind the Fern ep 6: Jacomb’s dream becomes reality

Josh Jacomb’s first week as an All Black had a little bit of everything, from a packed training schedule and plenty of ice baths to a rapturous welcome from South African fans and, ultimately, a debut in the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.

The latest episode of Behind The Fern takes viewers inside the week as the All Blacks prepared for their opening clash against the DHL Stormers, before Jacomb came off the bench alongside fellow debutant Siale Lauaki in the 38-21 victory.​

For Jacomb, the moment was the culmination of a journey he had dreamed about since he first picked up a rugby ball.

“You always dream about it, and then you don’t think it’s going to happen, you’re just playing the game because you love it,” Jacomb said.

From his time coming through the ranks to earning his opportunity at Super Rugby level, the next step had always felt like the biggest one.

And when that opportunity finally arrived in Cape Town, Jacomb had some simple advice to fall back on.

The episode captures the moments around his debut, including the support of teammates and family, as well as the advice he received shortly before taking the field.
