By the numbers: All Blacks v Stormers key stats revealed

The All Blacks kick off Rugby's Greatest Rivalry with a rare meeting against the DHL Stormers in Cape Town on Friday night (Saturday morning NZT).

The first game of this exciting tour kicks off early morning NZT, and the numbers suggest supporters can expect an entertaining contest between one of the world's leading Test teams and one of South Africa's most dynamic club sides.

The All Blacks arrive having won their opening three Nations Championship Tests against France, Italy and Ireland, averaging more than 40 points and six tries per game. The Stormers, meanwhile, have built their game around a physical set piece and an ability to create opportunities from limited possession, averaging more than 26 points across their 2026 campaign.

Attack versus defence

The All Blacks have been one of the most efficient attacking teams in international rugby this season.

Across their three Tests in 2026 they are averaging:

• 6.0 tries per game
• 1,098 carry metres
• 11 line breaks

The Stormers have also shown an ability to strike from anywhere, averaging 26.1 points and 3.3 tries per match, although they do so with significantly less possession and fewer carries.

Defensively, the All Blacks have also held the edge, completing 81.4% of their tackles compared with the Stormers' 77.5%, while conceding fewer penalties (8.0 per game compared with 9.6).

Momentum heading into Cape Town

The All Blacks head to South Africa on the back of three straight victories, defeating France (34-32), Italy (47-17) and Ireland (40-21).

The Stormers finished their United Rugby Championship campaign with mixed results, winning five of their last 10 matches. Their most recent outing was a 20-11 quarter-final loss to Leinster in Dublin after finishing the regular season with impressive wins over Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dragons and the Bulls.
