Sione Molia’s milestone 50th tournament for the team couldn’t have got off to a better start with a 47-0 victory over Hong Kong.

While the All Blacks Sevens were expected to easily overcome Hong Kong, the next two matches against Australia and South Africa were to provide an entirely different challenge.

Milestone man Sione Molia grabbed an early double against Australia to help New Zealand a 19-7 lead at halftime. Australia struck first in the second half to close the gap to 19-12 before Lewis Ormond scored late in the match to secure the 24-12 win.

The final match against South Africa was even closer with the score locked at 7-7 at the break following tries to Dylan Collier for New Zealand and Mfundo Ndhlovu for the Blitzboks.

The second half was a battle of attrition with Cody Vai’s try in the 12th minute the only scoring action of the half. The final score of 12-7 was a fair reflection on an immense clash between two quality sides not willing to give an inch.
