Ofa Tu'ungafasi Extends Blues Tenure Until 2026

In-form prop Ofa Tu'ungafasi, 32, has extended his contract with the Blues until the end of 2026.

The second most capped Blues player, he has 144 caps, is 20 caps short of fellow front rower Keven Mealamu on the side's all-time list. He has played 57 Tests since debuting against Wales in Dunedin in 2016.a

Tu'ungafasi, a pivotal contributor to the Blues' revival in 2024, said he was honoured to extend his journey with the side.

Since his debut in 2013, he has shared honours with the side in winning the 2014 World Club Tens championship and the 2021 Super Rugby Trans Tasman title.

"I'm proud to have played so much rugby for one club, and it's been cool to grow as a person and a player with the Blues.

"I take a lot of pride in contributing not only to our Blues community, but also to the development of our younger players. It's great to work with the new front-rowers and I'm committed to ensuring we build strength in that area."


Tu'ungafasi's contribution to the Blues extends beyond the playing field. He supported the 'Best Foot Forward for Tonga' campaign and the Blues' community outreach during last year's extreme weather events in Auckland.

The head of Blues Rugby, Murray Williams, said Tu'ungafasi's contract extension emphasised his contribution.

"Ofa's work ethic is second to none, and his prowess in the scrum is unmatched. He brings a positive vibe and good-natured spirit to our club. We're stoked to have him with us for another two seasons.

"Having Ofa on board for the next two seasons reinforces our aspirations to drive towards winning a DHL Super Rugby Pacific Championship. His experience will inspire our pursuit of silverware."
