Ben Lam and Ngani Laumape achieved the feat in the 2018 season, with Lam scoring four against the Rebels and Laumape touching down four times against the Blues.

Sullivan, who has played for the All Blacks XV, the Māori All Blacks and New Zealand Under-20, got on the field in Wellington after wing Kini Naholo was assisted off after suffering a knee injury seven minutes into the game.

Having trained all week as a back-up centre, he was nervous about playing for 73 minutes on the wing, as he felt he wasn't switched on to the moves he was required to work from that position.

"But the boys are so supportive and you have got to take the punches and roll with them."

Sullivan said he didn't think he had scored four tries before, especially in professional rugby, but was familiar with the role, having played many of the 71 NPC games he has played for Waikato on the wing.

It also helped to have the first five-eighths Ruben Love kicking accurately to put him in position to catch the ball for tries while his fellow midfielders were able to provide him with running chances.

Sullivan said he was prepared to play wherever he was named.

"It's unfortunate when injuries come, but you've got to be prepared for what comes.

"I'd like to play 13 [centre], but Billy's [Proctor] come back, and he's in great form and did really well against the Brumbies last week, and when he came on for the Perth [Force] game, he made a big impact.

"I was happy for the man to come back and take the jersey. In the first eight weeks I was there, I might have missed a few things, but that's just how rugby is; you can't control it.

"I'm happy to play outside him on the wing."
