BIOGRAPHY
A STANDOUT ON the wing for the Crusaders this year, Sevu Reece was a rugby and track and field schoolboy star in his Fiji homeland. He moved to New Zealand in 2014 to finish his schooling at Hamilton Boys’ High School and went onto play club rugby for the local Melville club.
His rugby rise continued when he was called into the Waikato squad for the 2016 domestic competition. He made 12 appearances that season, scoring seven tries, and developed his game further over the next two seasons.
In 2019 he was called into the Crusaders as an injury replacement and made an immediate impact in his debut game against the Chiefs, scoring an intercept try in a Man of the Match performance.
His blistering pace and unbelievable finishing made rugby fans take notice in what would be a sensational debut Super Rugby season. He topped the regular season try-scoring table with 13 tries, as well as 109 carries and 34 clean breaks, and was named the Crusaders Rookie of the Year.
Reece notched his first hat-trick for the All Blacks playing against Fiji during the 2021 Steinlager Series.
