De Groot who also represents Southland in the National Provincial Championship, spoke of his pride in staying loyal to the region:
“This part of the world is my home, I can see as a team we are building something worthwhile here and it’s something I definitely want to help lead and support over the next few seasons”.
Chris Lendrum, General Manager Professional Rugby & Performance said:
“We’re thrilled to have Ethan recommit through to the end of the Rugby World Cup and continue the loyalty he’s shown to Southland, the Highlanders and New Zealand Rugby. He has more to give the game and we are excited he’s chosen to do it here.”
