Hannah King caught the attention of Black Ferns selectors during the 2024 Super Rugby Aupiki campaign. After shifting from Canterbury to Wellington to pursue opportunities with Hurricanes Poua, the confident young first five-eighth impressed with her composure and ability to steer her side around the field.
King’s move north followed two consecutive Farah Palmer Cup seasons with Canterbury, where she made an immediate impact. In her debut campaign, she was recognised as the competition’s most promising player, sharing the award with Atlanta Lolohea.
The decision to relocate quickly paid off, with King earning her first call-up to the Black Ferns in 2024 and taking her first steps into the international environment.
In 2025, King continued her rise, gaining valuable game time in the Black Ferns jersey. Across the international season, she demonstrated strong game management and a composed kicking game.
