Laura Bayfield

Laura Bayfield has continued her rapid rise in New Zealand rugby, establishing herself as a powerful presence in the forward pack for both Matatū and the Black Ferns. Known for her athleticism, work rate and physicality, the dynamic lock translated her for in domestic rugby onto the international stage in 2025.

Following an impressive performance for the Black Ferns XV v Black Ferns in July last year, she earned a spot in the Black Ferns and made her debut v Australia in Wellington at HNRY Stadium. She then secured a spot in the Women’s Rugby World Cup squad where she continued to dominate.

Bayfield’s rugby journey began in 2020 where she became a key figure in Canterbury’s Farah Palmer Cup squad. Her outstanding performances earned her selection to the inaugural Black Ferns XV in 2023.

Off the field, Bayfield brings the same leadership and discipline to her rugby career. She serves as a captain in the New Zealand Army’s 3rd Field and Emergency Response Squadron, balancing her professional rugby career with military.
