BIOGRAPHY

At just 18 years of age, Taufa (Mele) Bason is proving to be one of the brightest young talents in New Zealand Rugby. From Fielding, she was a standout at Fielding High School where she earned selection to the New Zealand Secondary Schools team, scoring two tries in a dominant 57-22 win over the NZ Barbarians. Representing the Manawatū in the Farah Palmer Cup in 2024, Bason was also identified for the New Zealand Under 20 Women’s Rugby Development Camp. Hard work and determine saw Bason receive the late call-up to make her Sky Super Rugby Aupiki debut for the nib Blues and went on to winning the competition’s title and inaugural Super Rugby Women’s title.

Her brothers Mosese and Vernon are showing immense promise in their respective professional rugby journeys, with recent New Zealand U20 captain Vernon the oldest of the trio at 20 years old.

Off the field, Bason is pursuing a Bachelor of Design Innovation majoring in Fashion Design.
