Keelan has taken an unconventional path to professional rugby.
Spotted by coach Tomasi Cama playing club rugby in Manawatu, Keelan has played one season in Spain, and was a member of Wairarapa Bush in the 2023 Heartland Championship.
Brought in for a series of trial matches against Tonga, Keelan impressed and was offered a full-time contract.
He made his debut in Los Angeles in 2024.
