All Black #1159
Jordie Barrett is the youngest of the Barrett rugby dynasty. A versatile back, he can play first-five, second-five, wing, or fullback and is also a reliable goal kicker.
Barrett first drew attention at Francis Douglas Memorial College in New Plymouth and later studied commerce at Lincoln University while pursuing rugby. In 2016, after just one season of domestic rugby, he toured the Northern Hemisphere as an All Blacks apprentice.
He made his Hurricanes debut in 2017, scoring 135 points including seven tries, and earned his All Blacks Test debut against Samoa the same year. Barrett also scored in the drawn series decider against the British & Irish Lions. After an eight-month shoulder injury layoff, he returned in 2018 and continued to shine.
Barrett’s game reached another level in 2020 with the Hurricanes, earning him the starting 15 jersey for the South in the Steinlager North v South clash. Known for his versatility, skill, and tactical awareness, he remains a key figure in the All Blacks and has been Vice-Captain for the side alongside Ardie Savea since 2024.
The Barrett brothers’ dad Kevin “Smiley” Barrett played 167 games for Taranaki and also played for the Hurricanes.
