Peter Lakai is a dynamic loose-forward whose athleticism and rugby IQ first stood out at St Patrick’s College Silverstream. He represented the New Zealand Under-20 side in both 2022 and 2023, serving as co-captain in the 2023 Under-20 World Championship.

With his power, agility and all-round game, he impressed for the Hurricanes in 2024 when senior loose-forwards were unavailable. His form culminated in his first cap for the All Blacks in October 2024, coming off the bench against Japan.

In September 2025 he earned his first Test start at No. 8 in the Bledisloe Cup, underscoring his rapid rise.
