That hasn't stopped coach Scott Robertson making six changes to his side, four of them injury enforced, as he balances continuity with opportunity in his squad.

Robertson said centre Billy Proctor is showing the wear and tear of five consecutive Tests and needed some time to freshen up. That has allowed Quinn Tupaea to start at centre and he deserved that chance after some good play off the bench.

"He and Jordie work well together, they've done a lot of work defensively and are a good combination."

Peter Lakai will start at No8 with Wallace Sititi on the bench.

"We feel this sort of game, the way he hunts and how he plays, and his skill set will suit a start and it's a good chance for Wally to come off and make an impact."

Wing Caleb Clarke is feeling the effects of the blow he took to the ankle injury he had surgery on and that created a chance for Leicester Fainga'anuku to start on the left wing.

Fainga'anuku's form in the Bunnings NPC and his training since returning to the All Blacks is behind his recall.

"He's been consistent, so he's good. He's a big body and a point of difference."

Damian McKenzie will start at first five-eighths as a result of Beauden Barrett's injury.

"He's finished there a few times for us this year and started nine Test matches last year. It's great to have someone having someone who has played 70 Tests coming in at 10 after someone's played 140."

Ruben Love will provide cover for both first five-eighths and fullback.

Robertson said there are two ways at looking at the number of changes in the side and how that affects the goal of achieving consistency.

"You play someone and then you get your combinations and time out there, and they have time to get better at Test footy, and then there's a time you balance to give guys other opportunities and creates competition in the squad and creates a little depth.

"We know it's the back end of the Rugby Championship, which has been one for the ages, and it's guys chance that are fresh and hungry and that's the balance of it."

Australia will field, as expected, lock Will Skelton, flanker Rob Valetini and halfback Nic White and Robertson expects another tough contest.

"They've played some great footy and will be hugely motivated for this occasion. It's been a while since they've beaten us and there's a little hype around them.

"We've talked about our consistency, one of our focuses is to do it back-to-backa and get up for the match. It doesn't matter who we're playing and where we're playing."

Fullback Will Jordan is playing his 50th Test and is looking forward to the side backing up last week's effort in Auckland.

"It'll be a great night and, hopefully, we can keep moving in the right direction."

He said his 50th Test has come around quickly.

"Once you get to 20 or 30 they roll over a big quicker."

Jordan said Test rugby has changed during his time and it felt like teams were trying to more prepared to move the ball around in contrast to three or four years ago when there was a lot more kicking.

"It feels like the tempo has increased and ball-in-play is up. That caters to some bigger scores and bigger swings. If a team gets momentum they can play off the top of that."

There is also more evenness among the top 10 teams in the world.

"Any team in that top 10 can roll another on any given day. It's just the nature of the international game at the moment."

McKenzie said it had been a seamless transition for him moving from the bench to a starting role.

"It's been a good week. It's always nice getting out there and training with the blue sky on the back. Everyone's jumped into their role."

The All Blacks are expecting an attacking effort from Australia, and he respects rival Tane Edmed as an attacking player."

Jordan said having Fainga'anuku back in the side would provide the All Blacks with a big threat in the wide channels with his size and power.

"Hopefully, we can get him some early ball and get stuck into the game.

"The thing I've always enjoyed about Leicester is that he rises to the occasion, doesn't get overawed by much.

"He's ready to go. He's been in and around the camp for the last five or six weeks, so he knows what it's all about. I know within him there's a huge amount of drive to prove himself and get stuck in."

McKenzie said it is a similar situation for Tupaea although he was in a less familiar position at centre.

"I've played a lot more with him at 12 [second five-eighths], but he's jumped into that role well and he'll work and combine well with Jordie there. He's had a great week so far and is excited to get stuck in and make the most of his opportunity of getting a start."
