BIOGRAPHY

SAM CANE has had an exceptional career since his breakout year in 2010 when he made his Super Rugby debut for the Chiefs at just 18 years old followed by his provincial debut for Bay of Plenty later that year.

In 2011, Cane was part of the Junior World Championship-winning New Zealand Under 20 side, was the New Zealand Rugby Age Grade Player of the Year and was also nominated for International Age Grade Player award.

He made his All Blacks debut in 2012 aged 20 and helped the Chiefs to back-to-back Investec Super Rugby titles in 2012 and 2013. A devastating tackler and scavenger, he has continued to take his game to new levels in recent seasons.

In the 2018 Investec Rugby Championship victory over South Africa in Pretoria, Cane fractured his neck and faced months of recovery post-surgery. He made a much-anticipated return to the Chiefs in 2019 for their last five Investec Super Rugby matches, helping the team through to the Quarter Finals.

Cane first captained the All Blacks against Namibia at RWC 2015 and also led the side against Italy in 2016. In 2020 Cane was elevated to the fulltime captain of the All Blacks.
