Coach John Manenti told rugby.com.au he was thrilled with the group he has selected this year. They were building consistency in available players while introducing exciting new talent.

Nine of the side that won in Hong Kong in November last year have returned, while Henry Hutchison, who suffered a long-term ACL injury earlier this year, is set to return and will push for a place in the sides to compete at Dubai (December 2-3) and Cape Town a week later.

Nick Malouf will continue as captain, while Hutchison will likely share vice-captain duties with Maurice Longbottom. Henry Paterson, Matt Gonzalez, Tim Clements, Dietrich Roache, Josh and James Turner, and Nathan Lawson are also in the side.

Former Wallabies captain Michael Hooper will join the squad in January to push for a place in the Australia side for next year's Olympic Games in Paris. Hooper will have a maximum of six events to push his claim.

Joining the squad is Hadley Tonga, an Australia Under-18 representative regarded as one of the fastest players in the game.

Manenti said, "Hadley is one of the most exciting young players in rugby. He is super-fast and extremely elusive. He's only young, but I think he can make a real impact this year."

Ben Dowling has also returned to Sevens after a stint with the Waratahs.

"He showed plenty of quality when he was with us a couple of years ago, and it looks like his time with the Waratahs has only helped make him a more complete player."

Also joining the squad were last season's rookies Dally Bird and Hayden Sargeant and the Ken Catchpole medalist Michael Icely.

Darby Lancaster is missing, playing Super Rugby Pacific for the Rebels.
