They slipped to third, four points behind the Chiefs and Brumbies, on 27 points after the loss, but Holland was already thinking ahead to their next game, against the Brumbies after their bye week in week nine.

While they had a break, they would not be knocking off because the coaches were excited about their group.

"We've got a clear idea about what we need to do to be better."

Holland told SKY Sport the Chiefs were clinical and accurate throughout the second half and had taken every opportunity to come their way.

"That was where we were at in the first half, and in the second half we gave them the ball, and we didn't want to give them the ball. They were able to rack up phase after phase and let their boys go. It was a real game of two halves."

During the first half, the Hurricanes showed that simple things done well had created opportunities. But in the second half, they bombed two or three tries, and while they made opportunities, they needed to be more accurate to capitalise on them.

"We also turned ball over a little bit, and in these big games if you do that it means you're not going to win."

Holland was still optimistic about where the side had reached in the competition.

"We've been building, and we have a clear idea of how we want to play. We've still got to work on nailing the big moments.

"But, they're a top group of boys and they are working hard and you couldn't fault the energy again tonight and we're in a good spot to kick on. We'll learn."
