The Ultimate Team Man: Mitch Drummond Nears 150-Game Milestone

Coach Rob Penney said while they were pleased to win over the Waratahs in Sydney last weekend, there were aspects of the game they were disappointed in, especially being able to dominate.

"In the second half we created a lot, and that's pleasing, but there's still lots to do."

The motivation of playing their southern rivals, always an incentive for both sides, will be buoyed by the resigning of captain and second five-eighths David Havili for another two years, and the 150-game milestone being reached by veteran halfback Mitch Drummond.

Penney said Drummond epitomised what it meant to be a Crusader.

"His team first work ethic and his ability to get people connected is renowned and it is an honour for us to provide this opportunity for him to get out in front of his family and friends to celebrate his 150th."

Drummond has also played 100 games for Canterbury, and Penney said that put him in a unique club.

Drummond had been in the shadow of Noah Hotham and Kyle Preston this year, but continued contributing to the side.

"It's a hard job he's doing. You don't play 150 games for your team and not be competitive with a desire to contribute when the team's on the field.

"He's finding himself in a position where the other two boys are playing well. But it hasn't stopped him being that same person, giving, educating and supporting those boys in front of him."

Penney can welcome captain and lock Scott Barrett back this week, and he said he was set to play in a game in which they will not take the Highlanders lightly.

"They haven't had the results they would like, but that won't mean they'll turn up here any less motivated to do the on us.

"As I said the last time we played them a few weeks ago, the rivalry remains strong and they would reflect on a victory at our home ground with a lot of pride. It'll be a challenge for us."

Penney said Havili's retention was special for the side.

"He's a long-serving Crusader, and it would have been easy for him to look offshore, but he's so committed here.

"He's been a key part of the glue between the management and coaching staff and the players to get the synergy [necessary], and he's done a fantastic job as captain.

"He's going to be around a bit longer and gets a chance to play under the roof as well."
