Olive Watherston grew up on a farm in Arrowtown, and while at Wakatipu High School she was fortunate that the rugby team had been revived after a hiatus. In 2020, the then-teenager was selected for the Ignite7 in Tauranga, playing alongside Olympic gold medallists Ruby Tui, Portia Woodman-Wickliffe and Michaela Brake.

A versatile back with strong attacking instincts, Watherston brings pace, agility and energy to the Black Ferns Sevens programme. Her ability to create opportunities in space and contribute defensively continues to make her an exciting prospect.
