The former All Blacks scrum mentor worked with Australia over the last two years, extending his involvement into the Rugby Championship, after the British & Irish Lions series in July.
However, it will not be a hands-on role with the Wallabies. Instead, he is to undertake a mentoring role with the front row forwards of the future and also emerging rugby coaches.
The ACT Brumbies assistant coach John Ulugia has replaced Cron in the Wallabies for their end-of-year tour to the Northern Hemisphere.
Rugby Australia's director of high performance, Peter Horne, acknowledged Cron's contribution to the Australian game.
"He is a great person who is highly respected by all those involved with the game. We've been fortunate to have his services for the past two years, and we're pleased he has agreed to continue to support Australian rugby."
Cron intimated before the second Bledisloe Cup Test at the weekend in Perth that he was prepared to remain involved.
"We can get a conveyor belt going. So, if I can get that going for a year or two, and then hand it over to the Aussie guys to run and keep it going, you'll have a constant pool or flow of tight fives coming through."
Horne said Ulugia, who has played 50 Super Rugby matches and 150 games in France's Top 14, is a motivated young coach, and the end-of-year tour presents an opportunity for him to develop his skills further while gaining high-level experience.
